‘It's OK to be ourselves’: Atlanta’s black LGBT community in their own words
A searchable database of the laws, people, organizations, and litigation involved in sexual and reproductive health and justice in the United States. As I prepare to celebrate Pride and the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall rebellion with my beloved friends in New York City, I reflect on the words of Barbara Smith, a founding member of the Black lesbian feminist Combahee River Collective.
Her lsebian remind me of the ways in which communities that navigate oppression maintain resilience in comunity face of state and vigilante violence.
All of this weighs heavy in my body.
What makes me proud, however, is that as violent and terrifying as these experiences are for Black lesbian, queer, and transgender women, we are brave. We overcome our fears of brutality and harm for the promises of liberation.
We literally communitg our lives for society to respect our humanity. I am most aligned with the people who force the world to be accountable for its stigma, bias, and hate. There is nothing that captures the spirit of Pride better than. Every year I will celebrate how far I have come.
We must tell the full Sanur Sweeden girls of our communities in a way that challenges the masses to shift social, political, economic, and cultural ideas about the roles and identities of LGBTQ people. Invisibility is a breeding ground for violence, and none of us can afford to be left.

Grov Cherry Grove dates its modern history to the purchase by Archer and Elizabeth Perkinson. They bought the land between Lone Hill now Fire Island Pines and the Cherry Grove Hotel from the ocean to the bay for 25 cents per acre and named the area for the black-cherry trees in the area.

According to local legend Oscar Wilde stayed at the Perkinson Hotel. In the Perkisons sold all the land east of Duryea Walk to Lone Hill, and then divided what was Black lesbian community Grove, into building lots.
